The Old Mill really was a mill. Ground was broken in 1924 for one of the largest and most modern buildings in the San Marcos area to be used as a cotton mill but then became a wool scouring mill and wool blanket manufacturing plant. As wool was replaced by synthetic fibers in the early 80s, the entire four-building facility on 12 acres was purchased and totally renovated to become the now thriving 120,000 square foot Old Mill Business Park with office suites, flex office, technology, and warehouse/storage space. It also offers conference and meeting room facilities available for rent by the day.
The primary Old Mill building located at 101 Uhland Road has over 60,000 square feet on two floors with an elevator. There is a ground-level entrance for each floor. Space is divided into suites ranging from 1,000 sf to 3,250 sf with a wide variety of floor plans and some small individual offices. Adjacent suites can be joined together. Some suites have private bathrooms. One of the two 12,000 sf buildings houses the administrative offices for the San Marcos school district and a psychological services group. The other 12,000 sf building is a distribution center for two different companies.
A fourth building with 15,000 square feet houses a janitorial supply company and a facility for gymnastics training.
In 2020, Phase One of a new retail shopping center, Mill Street Crossing, was built on one corner of the Old Mill property to provide the densely populated area with a wide variety of products and services featuring a super convenience store with produce, meats, beverages, general groceries, a deli, and gas.
Phase Two is planned for 2021.
